8/6/2023 0 Comments Onyx for mac 10.3.6![]() My surfing is like instant now - even VersionTracker that was always a very very very slow to show up website - is almost instant now. The 40-50 bounces for a launch was being cause by something to do with favicons I guess - I put in that command (above) (that I found by by searching on the keyword favicon) and that problem was gone. This will not be everyone’s problem with Safari but it was mine. I guess Safari would finally give up on trying to use those numbers and then go fetch the web address. nothing - it was causing one heck of a stall. Safari was trying to comply with my settings - it was trying to use those IPs for getting info to use to get me to the URL (my bookmarks). This Dual G5 had some IP numbers in there that were left over from a ISP I used for 3 weeks (until they folded).Īll I did was remove those IP numbers (leaving the box empty) and the 2nd problem was totally gone. Systems Preferences > Network > TCP/IP - DNS Servers box (field) - that is only an option anyway. I discovered that the PowerBook (that did not have either problem) had nothing at all in the. I got these two puters a year ago - now with Safari working on this machine and with the 70 times (prob more) better bandwidth (cable today) it feels like a rocket booster. YAY - this G5 is now the internet machine it should be. I am a very long time Apple guy (since 1981) but somewhat new to AirPort and wrongly assumed everything about the internet was handled by the Airport since both computers "feed" from the AE. That was causing that horrible "stall" before Safari took off after the URL I requested. Those numbers went to an old ISDN ISP I had that went belly up a year ago (and beat me out of 700 bucks). The truth is I just read about DNS Servers while ago - I had never given any thought to that before - duh on me - that is the "phone book" that the info is looked up from to get the address of where I wanted to go. I had compared the settings on this and the PowerBook but somehow missed that - there was nothing in that box on the PowerBook. The slow to surf was being caused by the fact that I had some DNS Servers IPs. The thing that fixed the 40 bounces is posted above. OK OK lol - I will emb myself and tell you what my problem was (I had two bad problems on this G5 with Safari - the 40 bounces and the slow to surf. I found my 2nd problem - fixed it and now this G5 is a wild man on surfing. The problem (for only this computer and Safari) has been with me for months and months - getting cable today brought it to lights flashing - sirens blairing - BLATANT focus. dang who surfs these days anyway (ok that was a sour puss remark lol) What else can we try ? - I have waited years for real broadband - this G5 is all decked out with two 20 ACD monitors - it looks soooooooooooo classy UNTIL you want to surf. I am thinking this problem is more widespread that many people think. Why does Safari work like it should on the G4 PowerBook and not work like it should on this Dual G5?īoth puters have 1.5gig of memory - both are on the same AirPort Extreme wirless network. Put the bookmark file from my PowerBook this G5 Some things I did that did not help the slow problem one bit were. still don't move until it is good and ready. Instead of taking 40-45 bounches Safar now lauches in 1/4th of one bounce but. I just copy/pasted that command into the terminal and pOOf - the lauch problem went away. (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal): find ~/Library/Safari/icons -type f -print | xargs rm I did a search (ate lunch while Safari was "thinking about" moving and hit on the word. Well I have some good news - trying to find a fix for the slowness of Safari I stumbed on to a word I had never heard before "favicon". Today I got the cable and the doggi-ness of Safari is lit up like a search light. There were no answers so I lived with it. ![]() all while the little whimpy G4 PowerBook lauches it in 2 bounces. I posted some time back about this Safari (on this G5) taking 40 bounces to launch. It is a real shame my G4 PowerBook runs circles around this Dual G5 when it comes to Safari. ![]() it takes FOREVER for Safari to move at all (after I click on a bookmark).Īll this slow "stuff" is only on this Dual 2GHz G5 - my little whimpy 1.67 PowerBook don't have this Safari problem and boy oh boy it is in fact a problem. Safari has pretty much ruined my "happy day" - sure I can download files at warp speed but. I finally got cable today after a year on ISDN and 12 years on dial up. I have been dealing with this problem all day now - well not all day but.
